What having a best planner friend can do for you

If you've read any of my posts before, you've probably heard me talk about my #vendorsoulmate Liz from Elizabeth Henson Photos. This lady is one of the best things to have happened to me, both personally and from a business standpoint. She constantly keeps me inspired, motivated, and laughing. We met three years ago while she was second-shooting a wedding I was coordinating {thank you Katelyn & Sami for bringing us together!!} and I really can't imagine not having her in my life now.

I asked Liz to guest blog for me and told her she could write about whatever she wanted. In true Liz fashion, she used the opportunity to talk about someone other than herself. That's one of my favorite things about her....she constantly builds up the people around her. And when I first read through this post, I totally teared up. She's got that ability to make you feel like you're really important and really good at what you do. And I love that so much about her!

"I figured this blog was very appropriate since I just recently announced Holly as a part of the Elizabeth Henson Photos team. From the outside looking in Holly and Just Dandy Events is all about coordinating weddings, and that is correct. But there is a lot more to being a wedding planner. I have noticed wedding planners have amazingly organized and structured traits embedded in their personalities. This is something I’m HIGHLY attracted to because I have to admit I fall short on organizational skills. I like to call it “organized chaos” because my work always gets done, but my desk (aka life) is ALWAYS a mess. I looked around the other day at my closest friends; the majority of them are vastly different from me. So I think its true that opposites attract.

Holly has been in my life for YEARS now. She has been a part of every workshop and educational event I have hosted. I would like to even say that is part of the reason my events have been successful. Now don’t get me wrong, I can function without her, I know I joke that I can’t. But it more boils down to my mature ability to know that I perform better with HELP and ACCOUNTABILITY. Some events Holly is highly involved and takes care of so many moving parts, and then some events she is simply there for moral support. Either way, her presence lifts me up a notch!

My business is my heart in so many ways. While my life, house, and mindset may occasionally go haywire and my stress level might go up…. My clients are ALWAYS taken care of. So my “type B” organization does not get in the way of customer service. If anything, sometimes I think I relate to my clients in a special way because I understand the madness of life. But due to my busy schedule and commitment to my clients there are times I have had to rely on my BFF Holly to answer emails, send me a list, or calm me down in a panic. She certainly does this with grace and love every time.

So if you find yourself falling short in organizational skills or simply needing moral support on a regular basis then I suggest you find a friend with these “planner type” skillsets. It is ok that opposites attract! As far as my business goes, I’m dramatically more successful when I combine my efforts with a “team” of people who bring very different strengths to the table! I’m wise enough to know what I’m really good at, and what I really need help with…. And thank goodness for my pals like Holly who take care of me!"

Seriously though, how sweet is she?! And likewise, her creative, free-spirit traits bring so much to the table for JDE. She's constantly inspiring me to think outside my structured boxes and checklists. And every single time, I'm better for it. Not only that, she's helping me to pull out MY creative side {which I honestly didn't think existed for so long}. I've started to learn a bit about photography and even recently invested in my own camera. It's so much fun to play around and learn new things from my crazy talented friend! I'm so excited to officially be a part of Liz's team now and I can't wait to see what new craziness we get into!

One of the fun projects Liz has included me in recently is the Live Happy Stock Shop on Etsy. We always have THE BEST TIME getting together to shoot stock images and just let our creatives sides go crazy! If you're looking for stock images for your social media, website, etc...go take a look at the Etsy shop! And if you have anything in particular you'd like to see in there, shoot me an email and I'll see what we can put together!
