Oh friends....I can't believe it's been so long since I've featured a vendor friend! So today I'm breaking the silence and inviting you to learn a bit more about one of my all-time favorite wedding photographers, and my incredibly sweet friend, Elizabeth Friske Photography! Beth and I actually went to high school together, but the wedding industry is what has brought us so close together. I've loved sharing the ups & downs of entrepreneurship with her. She's someone that I always know I can go to for honest, sound advice...but she'll also always make me feel proud of myself. That's one of the best qualities you can have in a friend. She's also someone that I always know I can trust to take care of my couples and I never hesitate to throw her name in the hat when a bride is looking for a beach-loving soul to capture her wedding day.

Tell us about Elizabeth Friske Photography!

I can't believe it but I've been in business for EIGHT years! Time flies! I got started without a clue as to where I wanted this hobby to go. Once out of college I entered the corporate world filled with a windowless cubicle. And let's just say cubicle life left me a little unfulfilled. I needed a creative outlet and something of my own. My husband, a man of many hobbies suggested I get a hobby so I picked up a camera. Little did I know, our marriage and my passion for freezing couple's moments would lead me to where I am today. My love for the sea and for marriage continues to inspire me both professionally and personally. I am a Coastal Virginia Wedding Photographer supporting couples who are gravitated to the sea and are committed to each other, sharing a life together that won't be perfect but believe it is always worth the ride. I am also the owner behind Soul of the Sea Print Shop showcasing my love for the ocean and all the sea treasures I find along my beach walks and travels.

What is your favorite part of the wedding day?

Honestly, this is one of the hardest questions I find to answer as each portion holds so much meaning. But my favorite part of the day is ceremony. Watching as he looks at her walking down the aisle toward him, the emotion in both of them and all their families. This moment is why they are all there. The promises, the vows, and the celebration is about the marriage. Not the booze or all the pretty details... it is about bringing two families together and being witness to the start of a journey that will never be perfect but will certainly be the wave of their lives. Those words exchanged and the weight in the meaning is what pulls on those heart strings!

What are your top 3 tips for couples choosing a photographer for their wedding day?

I actually just blogged about this... you can read that here. But to sum it up there are a few points that I believe make for a successful relationship with your photographer and from that relationship, beautiful images you are excited to pass down to your future children.

1. Connection - It is no surprise that couples should connect with their wedding photographer. In order to feel comfortable in front of the camera, you must first feel some level of connection with the photographer. Your photographer is likely the one vendor who is with you for your entire wedding day. Like, really with you the whole time. There should be a level of connection and friendship there so you don't feel that a stranger is taking pictures of your most intimate days but a friend is with you along side you as you pledge to share your life with your person. Connection in my opinion is the key to getting photos that you see yourself in. Photos that reflect YOUR relationship.

2. Heart - Choose a photographer that clearly LOVES what they do. You can feel their soul in their work and the life that breathes within the four corners of each frame. Heart inspires creativity and fuels passion for a job. Every love story is different and you should hire someone who shares that passion for marriage just as you do as you embark on the journey. Heart is seen in their interactions with you, in their own story, and in their social presence.

3. Style - A photographer's style is their art. Their crafted way of expressing how they see moments. Hire a photographer who's style you like rather than a photographer who you hope to change their style into something you like better. A photographer's editing style is how they light their subjects and how they make slight improvements to an image. Their style should be consistent. That leads into the other two tips in this blog post I recently published... What to Look for in a Wedding Photographer.

What has been your proudest moment as a small business owner?  What’s your biggest goal?

These are tough questions... I think my proudest moment was when I finally started to come into my own.  When I started speaking to my own voice, telling my story, and sharing my heart. I recently launched, well last week, my new look that exudes who I am as a person and the heart behind what I do. When I started focusing on what I had to offer and the couples I serve, amazing things started happening. I started to grow into my skin and serve the couples that I was meant to serve. That is a beautiful thing. Speaking from experience, there is only one YOU, own it, and be proud of it. It is always a journey discovering who you are and who you want to become but realizing you worth breaking the fear and leaning into your self and your own creativity is an incredible accomplishment.

What kind of future do you see for Elizabeth Friske Photography?

I'm not sure what the future holds but I hope it includes more joyful couples who have a heart to build lives together and celebrate their love stories!!

Like she mentioned above, Elizabeth just launched a gorgeous new brand & website for her business last week! So much hard work, long hours, and HEART go into a launch like that, so make sure to head over to her site and leave her lots of love. It truly is so beautiful and represents Elizabeth so well!

And if you're a beach lover, make sure to check out her Soul of the Sea print shop. This lady really does have such a knack for capturing the most beautiful parts of the ocean! I have a few of her prints framed in my home office and they make my heart so happy every time I see them!

Thanks so much for sharing about EHP, Beth! I'm so thankful to do this small business thing with you and to have you as my friend! Now let's go get an orange crush! xo
